Electronic Structure and Reactivity of Metal Carbenes
نویسندگان
چکیده
Metal carbenes have for a long time been classified as Fischer or Schrock carbenes depending on the oxidation state of the metal. Since the introduction of N-heterocyclic carbene complexes this classification needs to be extended because of the very different electronic character of these ligands. The electronic structure of these different kinds of carbene complexes is analysed and compared to analogous silylenes and germylenes. The relationship between the electronic structure and the reactivity towards different substrates is discussed.

Rapid progress in experimental methodology has made it possible to generate and study highly reactive organometallic fragments in the gas phase. While experimental investigations have focused mainly on the reactivity and thermochemical stability of such species [l-7], parallel developments in ab initio theory have provided descriptions of the molecular and electronic structures of these molecul...
متن کاملGold Carbene or Carbenoid: Is There a Difference?
By reviewing the recent progress on the elucidation of the structure of gold carbenes and the definitions of metal carbenes and carbenoids, we recommend to use the term gold carbene to describe gold carbene-like intermediates, regardless of whether the carbene or carbocation extreme resonance dominates. Gold carbenes, because of the weak metal-to-carbene π-back-donation and their strongly elect...
متن کاملSynthesis and structures of gold and copper carbene intermediates in catalytic amination of alkynes
Metal carbenes are often proposed as reactive intermediates in the late transition metal-catalysed transformations of alkynes. Owing to their high reactivity, however, isolation and structural characterization of metal carbene intermediates in these transformations has remained unknown. Herein, we report the isolation of two acyclic gold and copper carbene intermediates in either Au(I)- or Cu(I...

N–heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs), first isolated by Arduengo et al. in 1991, have become a well-studied and well-utilized class of ligands in the field of transition metal-catalyzed reactions.1 Their proficiency in catalysis, variable electronic properties, and ease of translation into complex architectural structures have allowed for the development of unique reactivity and targeted selectivity....

The effects of halogens; fluorine, chlorine and bromine, on the stability and multiplicity of phenylcarbenes / silylenes/ germylenes structures are compared and contrasted at B3LYP/6-311++G**//B3LYP/6-31+G* level. The singlet-triplet energy gaps, ΔES-T , values for all the above speciesincrease through fluorinated up, ΔES-Ts and ΔEHOMO–LUMOs support the stability of the singlet statesinspite of...
